Most species of owls are nocturnal carnivores. Their food is mainly rodents, but they also eat insects, small birds, lizards, fish and other animals.Birds of this order have broad heads, short and thick beaks with a hook-shaped front end, and the feathers on the front of the head are arranged into a facial disk. Some species have ear-shaped feathers. The distribution of the eyes, facial disk and ear feathers make the head of this bird very similar to that of a cat, so it is commonly known as an owl.
